How to Practise Self-Ruqya: A Qur’an and Sunnah-Based Guide

Self-Ruqya means reciting Qur’an and authentic supplications taught by the Prophet ﷺ for yourself, seeking Allah’s help and protection. Its foundation is tawhid and reliance upon Allah, without secret words or special powers.

How can I begin?

Having wudu is good. Sit in a quiet place, make your intention sincere and begin knowing that healing comes from Allah. Sincerity and consistency matter. Do not treat a personally chosen number, time or the presence of a particular practitioner as a religious requirement.

What may I recite?

  • Al-Fatihah.
  • Ayat al-Kursi — Al-Baqarah 2:255.
  • Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas.
  • Qur’anic passages concerning healing and protection, recited with understanding.
  • Authentic supplications taught by the Prophet ﷺ.

You may gently blow into your cupped hands and wipe your face and body after reciting. Reciting directly for yourself is a simple approach. Listening to Qur’an, making du‘a, remembering Allah and maintaining prayer can support this spiritual routine.

A simple daily routine

  • Set aside a convenient time, for example after Fajr or Maghrib.
  • Recite Al-Fatihah, Ayat al-Kursi, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas attentively.
  • Ask Allah for guidance, protection, healing and peace of mind.
  • Maintain morning and evening adhkar as you are able.
  • Remain consistent and entrust the outcome to Allah.

This suggested routine is not a promise of recovery within a particular period.

What should be avoided?

Talismans, unknown chants, secret symbols, seeking help from jinn, intimidation and demanding payment in exchange for guaranteed results are not part of the approach taught here. Follow clear Qur’anic recitation and authentic supplications.

Do not assume every difficulty is caused by jinn or sihr

Physical illness, anxiety, depression, sleep difficulties and family stress can have many causes. Do not accuse someone of sihr without evidence. Ruqya is spiritual support and does not replace medical or mental-health treatment. Seek and continue appropriate professional care when needed.
