Black magic is a common term for harmful sorcery. In Islamic discussions, the related term is sihr. This guide explains the religious context, what to do when you are worried about sihr, and how Qur’an and Sunnah-based ruqyah differs from misleading claims. Symptoms, dreams or difficult life events alone do not prove that someone is affected by black magic.

What does Islam say about black magic and sihr?
The Qur’an discusses sihr in Surah Al-Baqarah 2:102, including its harm and the fact that no harm occurs outside Allah’s permission. For a Muslim, this is a matter of religious belief. It does not establish that a particular illness, disagreement or setback was caused by sorcery. Avoid accusing relatives, neighbours or anyone else without evidence.
Ruqyah means seeking Allah’s healing and protection through Qur’an recitation and permissible supplications. Sahih Muslim 2200 permits ruqyah that contains no shirk. A practitioner has no independent power to heal, cannot guarantee a result and should not claim knowledge of the unseen.
Can symptoms prove that someone has black magic?
No symptom checklist can establish sihr. Fear, disturbed sleep, pain or family difficulties should not automatically be labelled black magic. Reactions during recitation and frightening dreams are not proof against another person. Seek appropriate professional care for health concerns and do not stop prescribed treatment on a practitioner’s instruction. Spiritual support can be sought alongside healthcare.
What to do if you are worried about sihr
Begin with calm, practical steps. Continue your prayers and supplications, speak with someone you trust, and address the ordinary causes of difficulties. For religious questions, seek knowledgeable guidance based on clear sources. You do not need to identify an alleged culprit or buy a secret ritual to recite the Qur’an and make du‘a.
Self-ruqyah using the Qur’an and supplications
Self-ruqyah allows a person to seek Allah’s help directly. Recite Al-Fatihah, Ayat al-Kursi, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas, and learn authentic supplications. Maintain daily prayer, repentance and remembrance of Allah. Do not treat a particular reaction as a diagnosis or a lack of immediate improvement as a failure of faith.

Searching for “black magic removal”: claims to question
Be cautious about promises of a guaranteed cure, a fixed number of days, or identifying who supposedly caused your problem. Ask what will be recited, what the session involves and what fees apply. Avoid unknown incantations, secret symbols, invoking jinn, intimidation and pressure to abandon medical care. Your consent, dignity and privacy should be respected throughout.
Responsible ruqyah guidance should explain its limits. It should not use fear to sell repeated sessions or claim that every illness has a supernatural cause. You may ask questions, decline a procedure or end a session.

Frequently asked questions
Are black magic and sihr exactly the same term?
“Black magic” is a broad everyday English expression. Sihr is the term used in Islamic discussions of sorcery. Everyday labels vary, so it is important to explain the practice being discussed rather than rely on a label alone.
Can ruqyah guarantee that black magic is removed?
No person can guarantee healing or a particular outcome. Ruqyah is an act of seeking Allah’s help, not a promise of results within a fixed time.
Can I perform ruqyah for myself?
Yes. You can recite the Qur’an and permissible supplications for yourself. Seek help learning correct recitation and authentic du‘a when needed.
Can a practitioner tell me who performed sihr?
Do not accept accusations based on dreams, guesses or alleged messages from jinn. Such claims can harm innocent people and family relationships.
Is online ruqyah guidance available?
